FAQ
General – About EveryWare
What Cloud Services does EveryWare offer?
EveryWare offers Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Cloud Computing solutions "made in Switzerland". These include individual Cloud Servers, Private Clouds as dynamic virtual data centers, Dedicated Clouds with dedicated host systems, and S3-compatible Object Storage. These services provide maximum flexibility and meet the highest requirements for security and compliance.
What is a Private Cloud?
A Private Cloud is a scalable, dedicated cloud with a dynamic resource pool. It includes fixed reserved and dedicated compute, RAM, and storage resources, as well as extensive network and security components for operating multiple virtual servers up to a virtual data center.
What is a Dedicated Cloud?
A Dedicated Cloud is a highly available and redundantly designed Private Cloud on dedicated, physical host and storage systems. It is aimed at customers, including those from regulated industries, with the highest requirements for data protection, stability, and security. The Dedicated Cloud is maximally customizable and expandable; geo-redundant disaster recovery and hybrid cloud scenarios are also possible.
What is Object Storage?
EveryWare Object Storage is an S3-compatible, scalable, and reliable data store for any type of data with a simple web interface. It is suitable for a wide range of applications: primary storage for files, media and web content, and media and data archives. Backup and disaster recovery scenarios can also be implemented.
Can I test the Cloud Services?
Yes, you can test a Cloud Service Account and Object Storage for free for 30 days. EveryWare will contact you before the test period expires to discuss the next steps. Naturally, you can seamlessly convert your test version into a paid service.
What are the advantages of IaaS?
The advantages of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) are that peak loads can be easily balanced (flexibility through rapid scalability), availability is increased, access is possible regardless of location, and expensive investments in proprietary data centers and hardware are eliminated. You can map your IT infrastructure with server, storage, backup, and network capacities in the cloud, meet the highest security requirements, reduce IT costs in a budgetable and transparent manner, and focus on your core business thanks to agility.
Technical & Usage
How is network security ensured?
All VMs are operated separately in isolated, private network zones. In addition, the EveryWare Cloud Services offer extensive network functionalities through simple implementation of firewalls and security policies.
What hardware is used?
EveryWare exclusively uses enterprise-grade hardware and does not overcommit the platform.
Is local support available?
With experienced technicians, EveryWare offers local support and assists with cloud training and onboarding workshops as needed.
Which operating systems are supported?
EveryWare offers templates for Ubuntu, CentOS Stream, AlmaLinux, and Windows Server (billed according to SPLA directly via EveryWare). Further OS templates are continuously being added. Based on the offered operating systems, you can create and use your own OS templates.
How is Quota Management handled?
With the Quota Management function, you have full control over the usage of your OpenStack Cloud resources. Depending on your order and contract, your Client Account receives a defined maximum number of OpenStack resources (e.g., number of projects, vCPU, RAM, number of VMs, number and size of storage volumes, etc.). You can distribute these resources across your OpenStack projects, giving you full control over how much resource each of your projects uses. Should you require a higher limit for certain resource types, e.g., vCPU, you can request this directly in the Cloud Services Portal. Further information can be found in the Cloud Services Portal - Client Management Handbook.
How is bandwidth regulated?
The bandwidth of the internet access depends on the selected flavor of a VM. These flavors combine fixed defined sizes and limits regarding network bandwidth, storage throughput or IOPS, number and type of vCPUs, size of RAM, and instance block storage. Per Account-Project, 1 TB of outgoing data transfer (outbound) is included. Incoming data transfer (inbound) is included. Additional outgoing data transfer is billed per GB per month according to the current price list.
Are there snapshot functions?
You can manually trigger Volume Snapshots directly in the Cloud Management Console. You can create a new VM from a snapshot.
What is the platform availability?
The Cloud platform components are designed to be fully redundant. Storage is automatically distributed with high availability by a software-defined SAN and replicated in case of failure. All components such as internet connection, data centers, switching, internal networks, hosts, and storage are designed redundantly.
Are geo-redundant options available?
For even higher security requirements, VMs can also be provisioned geo-redundantly in different Availability Zones (two data center locations) to achieve a High Availability solution across various data center locations.
What automation options are available?
All functions can be automated via an OpenStack Client or executed from a command line. Further information can be found in the Open Cloud Handbook or the OpenStack API Documentation.
Billing & Contractual
How does billing work?
EveryWare bills for utilized Cloud Services On-Demand resources monthly in arrears. Pre-Committed instance types are billed in advance as agreed.
How do I receive the invoice?
EveryWare sends you the invoice for the past month at the beginning of each month. You can pay in CHF or EUR. All prices are excluding VAT, unless otherwise stated.
How can I increase resource limits?
In the Cloud Services Portal under Quota Management, you can see your available resource limits. Here you can also request an increase of resource limits if needed. Further information can be found in the Open Cloud Handbook. If you require higher capacities, EveryWare will gladly provide them; however, some lead time may be necessary. Please contact the Sales team via the contact form for this purpose.
Are Service Level Agreements (SLA) available?
EveryWare offers various Service Level Agreements (SLA). Further information on SLAs can be found on the corresponding page.
How are VMs billed?
Virtual Machines (VMs) in the On-Demand model are only billed when they are running. Volumes, however, are always billed regardless of their power state.
Is there a Fair Usage Policy?
Utilization of Disk I/O is not billed additionally. In case of excessive usage, EveryWare's Fair Usage Policy applies.
What are the contract terms?
For On-Demand resources, the minimum contract term and notice period are each 1 month. For Pre-Committed Flavors, the minimum contract term is 1-3 years, depending on the contract. The latest contract terms can be found in the Cloud Services General Terms and Conditions (GTC).
How is termination handled?
Unless otherwise agreed, the notice period is at least one month. Termination can be made by either party and must be submitted in writing, adhering to the notice periods, effective at the end of a month. Resources used will be billed until you have deleted them. 30 days after the termination period expires, EveryWare will delete your account, provided you have deleted your used resources.
Legal & Data Protection
What legal requirements does EveryWare comply with?
EveryWare is a Swiss company based in Zurich, successfully operating in the market since 1995, and is therefore subject to Swiss law and data protection regulations.
Where is my data stored/held?
Your data is hosted in two geographically separate data centers in the greater Zurich area, which, like the rest of our infrastructure (e.g., our multi-redundant internet backbone), are 100% owned by us. This means we are not dependent on third parties, and your data does not leave Switzerland.
